STAFF, parents and children at the Long Cross Centre in Lawrence Weston are preparing to welcome a regal visitor.
The Princess Royal will give the royal seal of approval to the £4.1 million centre, which offers services for children, young people and families in the area.
It brings together Long Cross Primary and Nursery School, The Four Villages Specialist Children and Family Centre plus services from North Bristol NHS Trust. More than 150 staff including teachers, learning support staff, health professionals and children's centre workers are based there.
Developed by Bristol Local Education Partnership and its construction partner, Skanska, work started on the new centre in November 2010 and it opened in September 2011.
Princess Anne will unveil a plaque to mark the occasion.
Head teacher Lucy Wyatt said: "The Long Cross Centre is a hub for local families, offering a whole range of services in one place. This makes referrals between services quicker and easier, so professionals can respond more effectively to the needs of children and families. We are delighted Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal is joining us for the opening ceremony."
Area health manager for North Bristol NHS Trust Joanna Smith said: "We are able to offer local families a wide range of health services in a convenient and familiar location. By working on one site, we can all work together to support the development, learning, health and welfare of both the children attending this school and others across the community and North Bristol."
Long Cross Primary and Nursery School has about 380 children and includes a resource base for eight children with complex learning difficulties and six children with autism. It is one of three specialist children's centres in Bristol. It offers early education for 32 children aged two to three and a range of family support services including parenting groups, childminder groups, after school clubs and training courses.
The Children's Community Health Partnership, in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust, offers health services for children and young people including health visitors, midwives, occupational, speech and language therapy, specialist school nurses, community paediatricians and child and adolescent mental health services.
